What to have with steak?

So am bowing to pressure from the family to cook steak tomorrow as a lockdown treat. Got some lovely fillet to cook, but debating what to have with it. Wondering about chip shop chips, garlic mushrooms and chargrilled asparagus, courgettes and spring onions. What would you have with it? What wonderful delicacies am I missing out on?

Chunky chips, fried or roast tomato and asparagus, with balsamic

How has no one mentioned macaroni and cheese yet?!?!

TooMinty · 08/05/2020 22:51

Sweet potato wedges, garlic mushrooms, roasted tender stem broccoli

Jacket potatoes and salad - we dice small cubes of smoked cheddar and add them to the salad or we top the jacket potatoes with regular cheddar and chives.

English Mustard or Horseradish.

Jacket potato with butter, sour cream and crispy bacon crumbled on top. Either garlic-roasted asparagus or salad with balsamic dressing for a nod to good health 😂🥗

Big chunky thrice cooked chips, portobello mushrooms, rocket , bearnaise sauce.

Preferably served in a buzzing restaurant with a bottle of malbec and good company. Sighhhhhhh.

I think this is quite individual to be honest, for me it would be:

  1. Rib eye, cooked medium to properly render the fat.
  2. Sirloin, cooked medium rare
  3. Fillet, cooked medium rare.

Always has to be Aberdeen Angus or Galician beef - organic if affordable and otherwise as aged if possible to get within my budget.

If money is no object then Waygu beef.

Though actually often I prefer a decent lamb steak Grin

The gastro chips. Baby peas. A lovely glass of posh fizzy pop. And a well rested rib eye. But any steak would do me. A bit of bearnaise. Sorted.

And a little nap after to let it settle Wink
I so want to have it now.

We had sirloins today from the freezer, with Dauphinoise potatoes, onion rings, grilled tomato and portabello mushroom, broccoli and ....sprouts...

Didn't have a sauce, just juices from the pan/resting juices with a little bit of butter.

Peppercorn sauce with mushrooms mixed in, chips, peas, onion rings, grilled tomato.

If I'm trying to be a bit healthier I do roast veg (pepper, courgette, onion, tomato) instead of the chips etc

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/05/2020 02:01

I had two sirloins and I gave them to Dd last weekend.
Why did I do that?
I want my steaks back!Grin

Baked Asparagus!
Place on cookie sheet, sprinkle with olive oil, salt, pepper and bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
It's amazing🙌

Mojitomogul · 09/05/2020 05:15

Mmmm love so many of these ideas.
We had sirloin last night cooked medium rare about one minute either side. Kept it simple with chunky chips and green beans and tenderstem broccoli, with buttery juices from the pan and a tiny dollop of english mustard to dip the steak into. So delicious. Seasoned the steak before with garlic seasoning, a few herbs and salt and pepper, always bring to room temperature before you cook it.

Falafellygood · 09/05/2020 10:31

Either proper homemade chips, griddled asparagus and vine tomatoes OR a goats cheese, walnut and pear salad (I'm having the latter tonight)
