I've been given a very generous amount of plums and apples from my mil, yum!....but what to do with them all?

I've got recipes for jams, chutneys etc, but does anyone have anything else a little more inspiring to offer before i end up just stewing the lot?

Plum cake, apple cake, apple crumble, plum sauce, apple sauce, apple strudel, plum pudding etc. The internet is great for recipes. Happy baking!

We have tons of plums, apples and pears from the garden. People also keep giving me them (I think they think we live on chocolate or something ). Anyway, I have found this rather nice recipe for getting rid of them.

Take one large basket and a large piece of cardboard.

Using a pen (a magic marker is best) write the words:

FREE WINDFALL FRUIT - HELP YOURSELF

Put fruit in basket with sign outside door.

Eat chocolate.

Spiced plums are good, done with red wine , star anise, some cloves maybe, cinnamon that kind of thing.

Apples you can just stew with some cinnamon or vanilla sugar, then you freeze batches and can use them for crumbles and pies

both ds 1 and 2 love eating 'apple mush'- not a new or exciting recipe just stewed apples -alone or with blackberries or cinamon and sultanas.i have just stewed 3 buckets of apples from our garden- some i have put into old yoghurt pots which look appealing and are going down well.its amzing how much mush they can get through!

plums down....apples to go. think i will take your advice overrun and willukee an just stew them with some other bits. will have to make some space in the freezer

Oh I was just about to start a thread on this. I have tiny damson plums coming out of my ears - three trees of them in garden. I have made jam, I have done a damson crumble (only ds1 and I would eat it though - fussy family) and I am currently stewing a pan of damsons to have with cereal for my breakfast, but what shall I do with the other thousands of pounds?

trixymalixy · 18/09/2007 13:57

My MIL makes lovely damson gin.

Which reminds me, I have a bottle of it in the sideboard. D'ya think it's too early to start drinking.........
