Homemade waffles

Ok, it might all be getting to me a bit but I've just been cleaning the kitchen and noticed my old sandwich toaster languishing in a corner. Then I had the idea that it looks a bit like a waffle maker......would it work? Anyone ever tried it? I mean obviously they wouldn't be the right shape, but it is basically the same thing otherwise isn't it?
Or if this is a completely deranged idea, could anyone recommend a waffle maker? Grin Are stove top or electric better?

apparently you can! there is a video how to do so . it uses cups as measurements so you might need to write it out and then convert the measurements over x

Our sandwhich toaster has different plates for waffles and panini. So the technology must be the same and the temperature.

If it's a square shape I think it will be fine and still rise like a waffle. I would try it if I was you.

Thank you! So I am not completely mad after all.Grin
Unfortunately I can't use that recipe as my son is allergic to eggs and milk but the fact that the machine could work is a step in the right direction.
Off to find a vegan waffle recipe....

Just in case anyone looks in the future I thought I would report back. I tried this and it did work reasonably successfully. I had to have a few tries as initially I put too much mix in and the outside was getting burned before the middle was properly cooked. Oh, and dont forget to spray the top plate with oil to prevent sticking. They weren't quite as good as proper waffles - I think because the bumps in a real waffle maker mean that they cook through better - but the flavour was fine and it certainly met my lockdown waffle craving.
