DH bought a large bag of gram flour, thinking it was wheat flour (should’ve gone to specsavers Wink). Any ideas for using it please?

Socca it’s a savoury pancake from the region around Nice. It should be cooked on a hot plate, and I’ve never got it quite hot enough in a frying pan. This recipe uses the oven. Eat fresh with fingers, like a chapatti.

Onion bhajis!

ItemLocationSpecialist · 27/04/2020 07:54

Pakoras

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 27/04/2020 07:55

Chapatis

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a deep fat fryer, so pakora or bhajis is a good idea. And the flat breads too.

Does anyone make sweet recipes with it? Found a chocolate brownie recipe online...

You can put it in falafels with chick peas, it is chick pea flour isn't it?

mumwon · 27/04/2020 09:56

you can use bananas or apple or pineapple fritters perhaps flour with spice & sugar (mixed or cinnamon or ginger or cloves or nutmeg?)

Vegetable pakora are great for using up random veg. Almost anything works.

If you want something sweet try making Mysore pak. I’m never made it but loved to eat it when I lived in India!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. It is a very large bag, so we’ll probably try a few Flowers

Try these, they are a kind of savoury crepes (besan is Hindi for gram flour):

Great for breakfast or even a light meal.

You can make socca pizzas. There are several recipes online. It's on my list of things to try one day.

My suggestion would be panisse, also from south of France.

Burmese tofu for stir fry - I just made some so waiting to see what it tastes like

I haven't tried this particular recipe. My recipe is in French and the liquid is a mix of water and passata.

Pakora.

DH takes all day about it and takes over the whole kitchen ... but it's worth it!

I made chapattis and onion bhajis to go with our curry last night, which went down very well. DH is keen to try making pakoras next. Thanks everyone Smile
