Alternative to rice pudding for pudding rice?

Used half a packet of pudding rice to make a traditional rice pudding - was not a hit with me or the kids...
Any thing else I could try rather than waste it? Thanks...

I’ve always thought you could sub it for arborio or caronoli rice for risotto but have never actually tried. Just always think that while buying the expensive stuff - if it works, let us know. Would be much cheaper!v

Have you tried either putting honey on rice pudding or making sutlac (Turkish version of rice pudding)? Both are really nice and taste a bit different. Otherwise, I expect you could do risotto with it.

It's rice, you can use it as any other type, adjusting the amount of water.

I have used it for paella and risotto before.

But never mind that, what do you mean you don't like rice pudding?? Grin

LesLavandes · 25/04/2020 22:02

You can put it in soup

jillandhersprite · 25/04/2020 22:45

Great - I might try a risotto with it...
And Leslavandes you have reminded me of my mums wonderful tomato soup with rice. I don't think I could recreate as would be gutted if it didn't come out just right - so next phonecall with mum I'm requesting tomato soup with rice when we finally can go visit!!

It works in risotto, I had to sub some in when there was less arborio than I thought left in the packet (we hardly ever have risotto so it needed using up) the other day

Have you thought about jazzing up the rice pudding with condensed milk? There is a way of caramelising it. You can also put marmalade or jam in. That was the only way they could tempt me to eat the stuff as a child. Also, stovetop ones, in my view are nicer, the rice comes out differently because it is stirred.

Half a packet?
You need hardly any for a rice pudding.

As for the rest of the packet, make a risotto.

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2020 12:24

Yes to risotto.

I was also wondering this and whether the pudding was not nice because it was all stodge ...

Thanks all! Made a lovely leek and mushroom risotto - kids loved it more than the rice pudding.
