Does butter go off?

I have half a pack of unsalted butter in the fridge that I was going to use for a cheesecake but the exp date is Feb of this year.

It looks ok and no obvious smell, would you carry on?

If it doesn’t smell then crack on. I’d let it come to room temperature first though.
I keep my butter in a butter dish on the side and it’s fine.

If it’s been in the fridge it’ll be fine for months, possibly longer but I’ve never tried. I never look at the dates. Left out on the side in heat it can go rancid but not in the fridge.

You can smell rancid butter a mile off so yours will be ok.

Thanks all. I'm not usually a date stresser, just give any food a sniff but wasn't too sure on the old butter. I'll crack on.
