It definitely doubled in size whilst proving. But then I picked it up all cack handed and squashed it! If I put it back in the bowl to prove will it grow again?!

Update--loaf has grown slightly when in the bowl for its second prove. Shall I leave it longer and see if it grows again?

Stick it in its tin and leave it to rise, it'll be fine. You always knock it down after the first prove

Thanks 😃

You should knock it down after the first prove in the bowl. Then put it where you are going to cook it, loaf pan, baking tray, etc and then let prove again there. You will be fine :)

Great. I'm in a terrible mood today and ruined bread would push me over the edge!

I did put it back in the bowl and clingfilmed the top but put it on greaseproof paper this time. So I can lift it onto the tray when it's grown a bit more.

Mine does this when I try to slice grooves into the top for a bloomer. I hope it turns out ok. Homemade bread is the best!

It was slightly underbaked but very tasty! Eaten still warm with butter 😋🍞 Thanks for your help!

Bercows you need a very sharp blade for that and a tender surface to the dough, so a damp tea towel or cling film over the dough. If you have to saw it at all, it will drop.
