Can this be considered as margarine?

It's absolutely awful as a spread for toast or sandwiches. Can I use it like margarine to make a cake? I normally only ever use butter recipes but I seem to recall that margarine can actually be good for cakes? Or any other idea to use it but not waste it?

Yes it would be fine to use in cakes

Instead of butter to make a roux with flour to thicken a sauce perhaps?
