I've got to finish up some stuff and don't have time to get to the store. We still need to eat something for dinner and I've got to use up my frozen food.......

help!

Fish Pie???

Do you have some frozen prawns and some eggs and spinach and mash (or use sweetcorn and frozen peas instead of spinach) and either a packet of white sauce and add cheese or make a cheese sauce - flour, milk and cheese and hey presto!

Kedgeree!!!

Just need fish, rice, eggs, onion, stock + I always add mushroom & peas to mine....

MeanBean · 05/10/2004 15:02

Or a thai curry? coconut milk, green curry paste, fresh tomatoes, brown sugar, soy and spring onions? served with rice and fresh coriander if you've got any to hand.

You can add ginger, nampla and garlic if you can be arsed, but you don't have to.

Just roast it in the oven, wrap in tin foil, add some seasoning, some butter and a few herbs and bung in the oven. Delish with salad and potatoes.

JJ · 05/10/2004 15:07

That sounds good don't have potatoes though for some reason. Might have puff pastry though. Will have a look in a bit. Thanks! Could probably make a biscuit topping (US biscuit don't know if you know what I mean...) Hmmmmmm.

Thanks again.

Oops, crossposted with you guys!

I don't have curry paste, salad (ate it all for lunch ) or potatoes. It's a sad state of affairs here...

I guess it's just fish for dinner then!!!

Grommit · 05/10/2004 15:14

top with breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan, basil, tomatoes, seasoning and bake...

MeanBean · 05/10/2004 15:15

Got any white wine? white wine, capers and lemon, fat free white fish dish. If you haven't got any capers or lemon, just chill the white wine, drink it, and throw the fish away and order in a Chinese takeaway!

Twinkie · 05/10/2004 15:17

Just bake with lemon juice and black pepper and lots and lots of butter and serve with a few veg and bread and butter!!

Now that I look at all the suggestions, they seem to good not to do properly (really!). So I'm going to have a beer in a bit (have no wine, sob) and my husband will pick something up on the way home.

Thanks!

shoot shoot shoot, forgot to ask if I need to defrost the fish first? If so, how?

Microwave? Leave in fridge overnight? Look at the instructions on the packet?

JJ · 07/10/2004 06:10

There were no instructions on the packet! I poached them v slowly from frozen. And yesterday I didn't do any shopping so went with Twinkie's suggestion and made the fish pie filling bit and then drop biscuits (what are those called in the UK?) and poured the fish filling over the biscuits (kind of like sausage gravy with biscuits...). It was v good. Thanks!

If the fish is packed in sealed plastic I sometimes thaw it by immersing in warm water. In 10 minutes it's thawed.
