How to send cake in the post?

Due to the current situation, I am unable to visit my friend for her birthday, so I thought I could bake her a cake and send it to her (London to Birmingham)

I have never sent a cake before in the post. I am thinking of making a banana loaf as that has no icing.

What is the best way of packaging a cake and sending it via the post so it arrives in one piece?

Would it be easier to send baked cookies or another type of baked goods?

I sent a simnel cake to my Mum once. I baked it, cooled it, wrapped it in paper, foil and then popped it in a box and filled up the gaps (inc. at the top) with tissue paper so that it could barely move around. I think I sent the marzipan eggs in a little paper packet along with instructions re how to singe the marzipan. I avoided plastic in case it sweated.

Something fairly robust would work fine, but frosting and a light deli plate cake will fall apart.

You could do some lovely fancy brownies in a foil tin and leave them in the tin for packing.

I send cakes weekly to student dc.
Bake in a loaf tin and either send in an old ice cream container or wrap well and send in a shoe box (plenty of space for other goodies in that one). Icing on top seems to survive well enough if you've got plenty of parchment.

There's no restrictions on sending baked goods.

I've sent Brownies in a Tupperware box. The most dangerous part of their journey was when the post office man's eyes lit up when I said it was cake :)

I'd send a deconstructed cake like this IKEA one

I sent a Christmas cake to DSis some years ago when she was serving in Afghanistan. I wrapped it in greaseproof paper and put it in a metal cake tin then wrapped it in brown paper so that I could address it. It survived the journey.

If you make something like brownies you can pack them in a "large letter" sized box and post them in a post box.

Cake will always find a way.

I think tarte&berry are still open, you can order a mini selection of traybake style cakes and have them posted directly to your friend

Not the same as baking but Sponge! make amazing cakes and somehow they survive the post despite being delivered upside down and held under their arms etc 😂

My favourite is probably sticky toffee, but I love them all. They do 2 different sizes, plus mini sponges, and have vegan and gluten free which are amazing, unlike most vegan or gluten free cakes

just put the icing in a little (as in those small small ones)next to it in the package.easy to do if you go with the shjoebox idea.
