Non-domed cakes

I want to make a cake for DD's birthday and for once I don't want the cake to dome.

Google says cake strips.

Has anyone tried them, are they really that easy to use?

Does Lakeland or Robert Days sell them?

Will you be icing/decorating the cake? If so I can recommend a cake leveller. Cost about £5 on Amazon.

Just cut the dome off- that way you get to check it tastes ok too!

I have heard it said that scooping the cake away from the middle before putting in the oven means that it will level off. I have not done it myself, but there is a logic to it.

Cut dome off and invert the cake so that a flat surface is uppermost and the cut dome is underneath / in the middle.
