Soup left on side?

I’m hoping this isn’t a stupid question...

So I make soup in my soup maker, portion in to 4, cool on the side and then pop 2 portions in fridge, 2 in freezer. I reheat at work in a microwave.

Today I made a new recipe which was leek and potato but contains 150g of creme fraiche. I prepared in the normal way and it was left on the side for a good few hours (6 or 7) to cool as it took a while as the kitchen was warm due to me batch cooking.

I’ve now had a bit of a panic because it contains dairy, and a google has alerted me to the fact that I shouldn’t be leaving it out for this long regardless - I should be cooking quickly then refrigerating. I guess I didn’t think of cooked soup as ‘dangerous’.

Am I ok or should I throw it out - I really don’t want to waste it! 😬

Wouldn't cross my mind not to eat it.

Thank you for replying! Normally I think I’d be the same but I got food poisoning last week and I think it’s made me paranoid.. then when I googled it it seemed to suggest it should have been left out 2 hours tops!

It will be totally fine and if anything, it's safer than putting kinda warm food in your fridge.

SquigglePigs · 12/02/2020 21:40

It'll be fine. I'd be a bit twitchy if there was meat in it but with that combo I'd say it'll be fine (and I'm pretty paranoid in general about this stuff). Just be super careful about making sure it's piping hot when you reheat it if you're wary.

Chances are you would be ok but the risk is there since you left it out so long. I make sure anything I cook is in the fridge within an hour. 6-7hrs is almost all day.

And there is nothing unsafe about putting warm food in a full size fridge.

If the cream in the soup has gone off, you'd taste it, surely? I'd eat it if it tastes ok.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/02/2020 21:49

It'll be absolutely fine.

I cool things quickly down by sticking them in the garden for a bit!

It will be fine. I made leek and potato soup yesterday, left it out overnight, had seconds from it today and have just frozen the rest.
