Slow cooker...I don't get it?!

Have had slow cookers for years and love them because they make life easier however...whenever I do one of these recipes where is says leave on low for like 10 hrs or something, the slow cooker burns my food!!

I've had 3 different slow cookers so it's not that the one I'm using is broken. I tried a porridge oatmeal recipe last night and put three extra cups milk and water and when I woke up it was just an over cooked mess.

Where am I going wrong ???Confused

I hate mine too. It leaches the taste out of everything and it all just becomes a bland soggy mess.

Same here, can’t seem to get anything to taste nice out of it

They're crap

I think this must have something to do with differing taste perceptions. Whatever I make tastes gloopy. Yet still I persist Confused should quit while I'm behind.

Are you thinking it's burned your food because it's gone black on the top? Because if so, that's not burning. It's just a weird thing that happens in the slow cooker.

I bought it for porridge and was sorely disappointed too. I love it for chilli, bolognaise sauce and mulled wine. :)

I think they're only good for things like stew, chilli (particularly veggie chilli) and that's about it. Plus you actually need to cook all the stuff in a pan and transfer to the slow cooker if you want real flavour. So it's only kind of useful in that dinner can be ready when you walk in the door but you still need to do a fair bit of prep. Also - use WAY more spices than whatever the recipe suggests.

I love cooking gammon in mine. It just falls apart and tastes delicious. Other than that, they’re pretty shit.

Cornishqween · 11/02/2020 18:56

Yep talking about the black stuff on top and also when I do gammon it's lovely but anything past 3 hrs and it's dry and hard Sad

Maybe I should give up. I just have seen so many lovely YouTube videos where they do these impressive dump bags that you throw in of a morning and come home to a delicious cooked meal.

The porridge I tried according to the video I saw on YouTube was inedible, just a vile brown mess
