Does anyone make cakes bits for a cafe?

What do you charge for a cake? I'm trying to work out if it's worth my time

It depends on the cake! If you're selling whole cakes I'd focus on plain loaf cakes...lemon etc and basic chocolate cakes because thats' what people like best. Work out your costs...just the materials and the oven etc and add that up...say it costs you 2 pounds per cake in ingredients and power (that's a guess) and then think of your time....you could charge about a tenner for a nice cake in some areas but in others people would laugh and go to Asda.

I read on here once that a baker was selling cupcakes at their local market and they were pretty basic but the top was LOADED with sweets. Very dramatic looking. So all the kids wanted them and they sold out weekly.

I make cakes for my own cafe so I obviously have a lot of overheads to consider, rent, staff, insurance etc and well as ingredients, electricity and time. I sell whole cakes to customers for between £12 (giant cookie) up to £100, and in the shop sell for between £2 (cupcakes) up to £4.50 a slice (multi tiered drip cakes). If you're selling to cafes they obviously need to make a good mark up to turn a profit, I cant see them wanting to pay much to be honest. Lots of other cafes near me buy from costco.

There are a few people on my fb selling direct to the public, doing those fb raffles/bonus balls and seem to be doing well although I'm not sure of the legalities of it!
