Cake design

Hoping you lovely people can help me. I want to make an 18th birthday cake in the shape of the number 18, but due to limited facilities I'll probably be making brownies rather than proper sponge.
I'm planning to make three flat rectangular cakes, cut one in half lengthways and stack them on top of each other, then cut out the outline of an eight from each of the other two and sandwich them with buttercream. I'll then cover it with buttercream and then pipe on the inner circles of the eight.
Does this sound like it would work? Have a missed any obvious flaws? I'm a competent baker but I'm new to fancy shapes and decoration and I really want to get this right

That sounds fine. Just draw it out on paper first, to check.

I’d work out what size you want and then draw or print a template to cut round (I usually print because I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler Hmm)
