Would you eat these burgers?

Bought back in October - straight into freezer and totally forgot about them until last night. Have been defrosting all day but noticed on back it says freeze and consume within one month! Would you still cook them?

Hell yeah, all that "use within one month of freezing" is a marketing ploy. Once frozen in a proper freezer the burgers won't go off, over time (and a much longer time than one month) the texture will start to slowly deteriorate but they will still be safe to eat.

Nicketynac · 15/01/2020 17:09

Yep. I pay no attention to these warnings. (No scientific basis to this, but I assume there is no basis to most of the earnings either)

inwood · 15/01/2020 17:10

Yes absolutely.

managedmis · 15/01/2020 17:11

Er, no

MacAndDennisMoveToTheSuburbs · 15/01/2020 17:12

Yeah, surely they’ll be fine.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/01/2020 17:12

Of course, they'll be fine.

bluebellation · 15/01/2020 17:13

Yup, as far as I'm concerned, once it's frozen it'll last for ever . It might deteriorate in texture a bit, but it won't do you any harm.

iklboo · 15/01/2020 17:20

Definitely if you cook them through.

MarinaMarinara · 15/01/2020 17:24

If it’s a proper freezer rather than a little ice compartment in a fridge they should be ok for 6 months (and probably longer, if with some deterioration of texture). I’d cook them thoroughly but would not be concerned about eating them.

dementedpixie · 15/01/2020 17:27

They'll be fine. Quality may deteriorate but they'll still be safe to eat

Baileys4two · 15/01/2020 17:31

Definitely, what bloodywhitecat said.

If stored correctly at -17/18°C, meat will last for years, although will deteriorate in flavour/texture.

I live by the if it looks ok, smells ok and tastes ok, then I'll eat it rule.
Something raw, I would always try cooking it well and then applying the above.

Never been ill from eating food, so it works for me.

Baileys4two · 15/01/2020 17:34

IMO, a lot of these statements are to cover the shops, and to make them more money, so you're buying things more often than you really need, which increases their profits.

rosesandcashmere · 15/01/2020 17:38

Yes they will be fine!

Iwantacookie · 15/01/2020 17:40

Yes they will be fine

spicysausageroll · 15/01/2020 17:42

I'd eat them a year or two after freezing!

Gertrudesgarden · 15/01/2020 17:44

Yep, I'd happily eat them, once cooked properly. I keep meat for months and months in my deep ftreeze.

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/01/2020 17:50

yeah definitely!

KittenVsBox · 15/01/2020 17:53

Proper freezer, yes without a seconds contemplation.
Tiny little icebox, I'd smell before, and during cooking.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 15/01/2020 18:12

Yes! Freezing them does exactly that - FREEZE! Therefore when you defrost them they are equivalent to the day they were frozen

SillyBub · 15/01/2020 18:15

I have literally just this second finished eating a burger from the freezer that was frozen on day of purchase, with a use by date of March. I'm still alive 3 minutes later Grin. It tasted just fine! As did the fresh burger bap that had a use by date of Monday.

SayitBeit · 15/01/2020 18:16

Yes.

They want you to eat them quick and buy them again.

GrapefruitGin · 15/01/2020 19:55

Thanks all! Just had dinner.... I guess will find out in an hour or two if it was the right decision Grin

@GrapefruitGin I'm still alive, are you? Grin

GrapefruitGin · 16/01/2020 12:15

@SillyBub yes made it through the night! Grin
