Leftover lasagne from New Year's Eve that has been in the fridge since then.

Would you eat it today?

Absolutely not. I did this one too many times as a teen and triggered IBS. It can happen at any point and food poisoning is no joke.

Jesus Christ no

Hmmmm I usually eat anything but not sure if I would.

Meat (even chicken) is absolutely fine for up to five days in the fridge.

I’m more careful with fish and seafood.

Supermarket lasagne is full of preservatives and so has a longer shelf life! 3 days max for home made

ThunderboltandLightning · 06/01/2020 07:36

Which of the ingredients listed here in a Tesco lasagne is the preservative that leads to a shelf life of 5+ days? I am not seeing anything that wouldn't be available to a home cook.

Even a quick Google gives me a shelf life of up to a week for homemade lasagne (longer than the Tesco one).

So much unnecessary food waste these days because people no longer trust their sense of smell and taste to tell them when food is off, and rely completely on an arbitrary cut off.

Yes I agree - I do actually happily eat meat (even chicken) for up to a week after it’s been cooked, but I generally aim to eat it within five days just to be on the safe side. There’s absolutely no reason why one shouldn’t.

Did you eat it op?
Where you alright?

An update: I’d made the lasagne at my parents’ place on the 31st. I decided that DD and I shouldn’t risk it on Saturday as we were traveling back (6 hour drive) yesterday and I didn’t want to risk even a slightly dodgy tummy!

However, my parents finished it yesterday and are still alive and well today. However, they’re of a tough constitution as they do things like this all the time!
