Jamaican-style ginger cake without treacle/golden syrup

Hi,

I'd like to make a Jamaican-style ginger cake but don't fancy my chances of finding black treacle and golden syrup, given that I live abroad.
Does anyone have a recipe which uses dark sugar or honey, please?

TIA

There's a You tube video for making both golden syrup and treacle.

I found the golden syrup works really well, the treacle one didn't work too well for me and I still haven't got the traces of the pan.

Thanks, newtb!

I am also abroad and Delia's Jamaica ginger cake is our family favourite. I buy the black treacle and golden syrup from Amazon.

I think honey would work well I have interchanged honey & golden syrup in recipes (flapjacks! & applesauce cake) gives a slightly different flavour but its still nice & use a darker brown sugar

Dark corn syrup could also work if you can get this.

Thanks for the advice!

Hmm, Amazon does two tins of dark treacle for 11 eur. Never thought to look!

How about the liquid from a jar of stem ginger with some dark sugar?

Nice idea, MitziK - thanks!
