I need to get DS1 used to using his lunch box properly so have lots of picnics planned, what usually goes in school lunchboxes? he is a slow eater but i want him to be full afterwards.

What is always a winner with your DCs?

What do i need to remember NOT TO DO?

I was full of lovely healthy ideas for dd when she started school last year......but most days she had a jam sandwich, yogurt, water and a piece of fruit She eats much better at home I think! When I did put in different things like veggie sticks, hummous, pita pockets etc etc they just didn't get eaten

sigh

but good luck with your little one!!!! picnics are a good idea. I'd also have him choose his lunch box and water bottle ( if he's having a water bottle for inside) And get some containers that he can get the lids off and on too

we have got his lunch box and all containers already as well as water bottle(can they really not have juice?!)

he stuck his name on them all, he just doesn't seem to manage properly so thought practising would help him!

of course they can have juice!!

I'd rather dd have water though - she does get juice sometimes but it's rare

When they start school I think teeny portions of sandwiches, fruit and a yogurt or something, with a small drink is the way to go. Eating lunch with a hall full of kids is so distracting. For quite a while dd would spend the entire lunch just looking round in awe and getting nothing eaten. I had a big snack ready for after school.
