Help! Apples Apples Apples...

My apple tree has gone bonkers and I have more apples than I know what to do with - those that the blackbirds have left me. The fruit are small and quite tart not really desert apples - not sure what they are actually but we live in the Highlands - the same variety may well be very sweet further south.

So far I've:
Stewed and frozen enough to keep me going for the rest of the year
Apple jelly (ditto)
I've chopped loads into rings and dried them
Bottled them in syrup (experimenting with this so don't want to do too many before I find out what the end result looks like in a few months.)
DS and I will get the old wine-making fruit press out tomorrow and make some juice just for the craic - and because we can.

The kids are getting tired of apple crumble (though open-topped Normandy apple tart still gets wolfed down).

I have buckets and buckets of the bloody things and there are still loads on the tree. Any helpful suggestions?

Just store them? In newspapers and check every now and then.

Apple jelly, with chilli or mint....

Oh congrats, I think I got about 5 apples this year.

Do you have any jars left? I've made mulled apples before - sliced, poached in red wine and spices, then reduced the poaching juices a wee bit, poured over the apples in sterilised jars. So good with cheese, and if you do find you run out of your frozen stewed apples they make a great crumble base.

I've also looked at recipes for apple butter before, but never made it...

I have one apple tree and its wasps that get to them. But this year was a good crop (as was my very young pear tree) so I made loads of chutneys and jelly for christmas presents. Great to give to teachers/coaches/anyone who has done me a kindness through the year. Does your school have a Christmas Fair? Sell some chutneys for charity?

I was the happy recipient of a bag of apples last year from someone giving them away on Facebook. You could do that I suppose.
They were small, tart apples but made a couple of amazing crumbles and I was very appreciative being given them.

That apple cheese thing looks like my kind of thing. And, as stupid as it sounds, just storing the things Wrap them individually and keep them on racks just hadn't occurred to me - d'oh!

I mentioned to DD number 1 last night that she must be fed up with apple crumble and she looked at me as if I said the stupidest thing in the world. "You're joking, right?" which was the nicest thing .

Mind you, that kid would eat anything if you buried it under enough custard.

Take the core out, cut a ring round the outside of the skin, fill the core with mincemeat (the sweet stuff)
Put in oven & bake till soft.
Eat with ice cream.
