At last - a REAL (credible/incredible)alternative to BACON

I stopped eating bacon about 4 years ago (it was one of my favourite foods) - I was eating it over 40 years so I know what it tastes like.

I try to eat as much veggie/vegan food as possible to reduce stress on the environment (some ethical reasons too)

All meat alternatives leave me very cold, I hate them. Give me a sore stomach and my er.... bowels don't process them well.

This 'bacon' is very strongly flavoured and tastes exactly like bacon - and the texture is excellent- no graininess or weird soft mouth feel but chewy like thin bacon. So far we've had it in sandwiches with fried eggs and I cannot tell the difference. It's so strongly flavoured I imagine it would be great in macaroni cheese, basis for soups instead of chorizo etc.

You're supposed to fry it but my frying pan is crap so I grilled it with oil spray - perfect

And no weird after effects.

I don't work for them - never heard of them until this week.

£26.60 per kilo !!

EmperorBallpitine · 26/10/2019 12:47

Then don't buy a kilo? Confused

Bacon is awful for you, but do love it, I might check this out. Bacon rolls are a family favorite for winter sunday breakfast

LaurieFairyCake · 26/10/2019 12:51

You get 10 'rashers' and I meant to say they were thick, not thin - so about 4mm thick

@ EmperorBallpitine

My point is they are 5x the price of real bacon.

Why does vegan food have to emulate meat?

joffreyscoffees · 26/10/2019 19:45

@handbagsatdawn33 because some people choose not to eat meat to help the environment and stop needless animal slaughter - not because they don't like the taste or texture of meat.

My son had a 'not a beefburger' or something catchier. He loved it. Said he'd choose it over meat.

picklemebrains · 26/10/2019 20:02

Beyond meat it was called,

Titsywoo · 26/10/2019 23:01

Where did you buy it Laurie? I'm not a veggie but often prefer meat free versions of things ( generally prefer veggie burgers and sausages to the real thing) so would be interested to try this.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/10/2019 00:09

I got it from Ocado

Can someone post as link, that imagery isn't opening for me.

Axl1977 · 27/10/2019 09:06

I need link posted too please. My daughter is vegan - she would love this but can't see the name of it!

Ftumch · 27/10/2019 09:11

I disagree. It is meaty, and tastes ok, but it doesn't taste or feel like actual bacon.

Ftumch · 27/10/2019 09:12

It does taste and feel like meat, to be fair, just not bacon.

This sounds amazing. Bacon is the main reason I am not vegetarian. DH is vegan and has heard other vegans recommending it. Apparently, you can get it in holland and barrett.
