It's September! The weather is definitely starting to feel autumnal! It's slow cooker season! So far I have made pork roast, spaghetti Bol, sausage casserole and chicken casserole. Any other recommendations or easy recipes?

the favourites here are pulled pork and cajun chicken stew...must get it out of the cupboard and give some of these a try!

Anchovies sound great .

I'm going to try the jerk chicken tonight!

Has anyone tried adapting one-tin recipes for the slow-cooker? Is there a simple rule to remember, like adding more liquid (or less)? I have the Green Roasting Tin book, and wondered how easy it would be to adapt the meals? Has anyone tried it (successfully or not)?

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/09/2019 13:03

Any adapted recipe would probably require less liquid rather than more. You wouldn't really get the same caramelised roasty taste I don't think.

I’ve got a sausage casserole in the slow cooker but it’s looking very watery, any advice please? Confused
Sausages, tinned tomatoes, baked beans, carrots, potatoes, peas, mixed herbs and Worcester sauce.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/09/2019 13:13

PinkDaydreams You could tip the liquid into a pan and boil it to reduce it.

PinkDaydreams · 28/09/2019 13:14

Good idea! I’m about to go out and don’t want it being too watery when I get back. May have to do that and boil it when I’m home

I second this! My favourite things to do in the slow cooker are lamb hotpot, chicken curry, casseroles. My biggest favourite is hunters chicken in my slow cooker. Fresh large chicken breasts wrapped with bacon, mix BBQ sauce and a bit of passata together, pour on and put on high for 6 hours. Scrumptious and very soft! Served with crispy chips and corn on the cob with melted butter Grin

I prefer to use my 12 in 1 pressure cooker that slow cooks as well as bakes and makes yoghurt/proves bread. But yes, we've. Been having warming food - soups, casseroles etc for a week or so now!

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/09/2019 13:33

I've got a lamb shank in today. Just onions, carrots and stock, I'll have separate vegetables.

Confuseddotcotton · 28/09/2019 13:37

I’ve got a beef stew on the go, fried onions and beef to brown, added chunky carrots, potatoes and mushrooms, tin of tomatoes and some tomato purée. Random herbs and seasoning. Will cook for about 7 hours.
Smells lovely already!

I made this tonight and it was delicious:

Well the sausage casserole turned out delicious! I put a teaspoon of gravy granules in and it thickened up lovely. DH wouldn’t try it though Hmm I’m determined to change his mind on the slow cooker!
