Help - lots of ripe figs!

Our fig tree is laden this year so I have masses of fresh figs to use up. And typically my DS is on a residential and my DH is away for work so ideally I’m looking for recipes suitable for freezing. Any ideas?!

What a delicious problem 😁

How about fig jam? This recipe looks pretty easy www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/fig-jam

Or fig compote? That should be freezable (not sure that’s actually a word...)

you can freeze this figgy pudding if you wrap it completely airtight.

this chicken and fig curry should freeze

you can freeze fig and walnut bread for up to 2 weeks

Sorry, got distracted - some fab ideas thank you! Not in London at all - sorry @Rubicon80 Smile. Anything for figs AND raspberries really pushing it now??

Ooh @sleepismysuperpower1, could you possibly resend the figgy pudding link? It seems to bring up a phone on Amazon!

Raspberries freeze well for using in smoothies!

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/09/2019 21:08

Mine aren't ripe yet. I'm jealous

Rubicon80 · 09/09/2019 21:12

I'm jealous of anyone who can grow them! What type of soil/sun do you need? Is it difficult to keep a fig tree going or will it survive a bit of neglect when life gets in the way?

I don't think I'd ever manage to cook with them, my daughter and I would just eat the lot Grin

sleepismysuperpower1 · 09/09/2019 21:14

whoops! perhaps i linked the wrong one. try now

Popskipiekin · 09/09/2019 21:15

I had the most delicious caramelised fig ice cream. No idea of a recipe but if you discover one - you could freeze it! Grin

sleepismysuperpower1 · 09/09/2019 21:15

oh, and this recipe here for fig, raspberry and frangipane tart is lovely, although i haven't frozen it before. think it would be alright if you kept it airtight for maybe 4 days?

TooMinty · 09/09/2019 21:19

Send some to me! I really fancied some the other day but couldn't find any at the shops 😢

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/09/2019 21:22

Toominty I think they're on offer in Aldi this week

YouDancin · 09/09/2019 21:27

On last week's Great British bake off they made fig rolls. They looked lovely.

There's a Portuguese fig and almond cake / hard paste that is great with cheese.

Rubicon80 · 11/09/2019 09:39

@Toominty your best bet is a proper fruit and veg stall or Turkish/Persian/etc. grocery store. I got five HUGE figs yesterday from the stall in my high street. I meant to save some for the kids but they'd all gone by 3pm! Soooo good.

TooMinty · 11/09/2019 12:52

Thanks @Rubicon80 I don't live in a very ethically diverse town so there's a poor choice of good veg shops locally 😢
