Something to use up chocolate

notnowlater · 09/09/2019 13:55

I have a load of Easter eggs left over (and some chocolate Santas from last year!), and I am going to make something for the McMillan coffee afternoon to take into school to use it all up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can make?

Only thing I can think of is a fridge cake/tiffin type thing.

Thanks

Sorry left over chocolate. I don't understand

Grambler · 09/09/2019 14:01

Pick it up. Put it in your mouth. Job done.

RainOrSun · 09/09/2019 14:07

Yes to tiffin.
Chocolate brownies often have melted chocolate in.
You can bring cream to the boil, and add the same weight of dark chocolate, or more milk chocolate to make a ganache icing for chocolate cake.

The problem you might have is most recipes ask for dark chocolate, and most eating chocolate is milk chocolate.

Smotheroffive · 09/09/2019 14:09

Well, well, if you don't know what to do with leftover chocolate, send it over to me, I will make short work of it!

Seriously though, I would melt it all down and use is as the base for ganash for chocolate cake between layers and on top, or use melted to make trays of chocolate dipped fruit, then when your tray is full, use a bar of melted white chocolate to drizzle in strings across the tops, refrigerate amd serve when set. I think they work well left out, like in your type of event so the fruit isnt too cold, but very juicy and tasty.

Good luck with the fund-raising! Flowers

Very yum indeed!

Chocolate brownie,
millionaires shortbread,
Cookies,
chocolate cake with choc chunks in,
flapjack topped with melted chocolate

notnowlater · 09/09/2019 14:18

Hehe I thought I might get some responses like that!
We eat a very low sugar diet, and our daughter was poorly all over Easter so none of her eggs got eaten, hence the stash!

Thanks for the ideas so far.

@RainOrSun you've just reminded me of Nigella's brownies that I used to bake years ago - they should use up a good amount of it.

And @Smotheroffive the fruit is a good idea. I have some skewers I could do it on, as kids seem to love the novelty of skewers.

The vintage chocolate chip cookie recipe on the BBC good food pages is great. You could chop any chocolate to make the chocolate element.

notnowlater · 09/09/2019 14:35

Thanks @DonPablo will make those too.

Grin beat me to it

Rice Krispie cakes

JustBeenNosey · 09/09/2019 15:48

Plain muffins/cupcakes with chocolate drizzled on top.

Cut the chocolate to small prices and make chocolate chip muffins/cookies.

Make a massive chocolate cake, with chocolate buttercream and melted chocolate on top

Plenty of things to do with it 😁

Haveapip · 09/09/2019 15:53

My kids love a chocolate fondue. Just melt in a pan with cream and some golden syrup. They can then stick in fruit or marshmellows on skewers.

LochJessMonster · 09/09/2019 15:56

crispies/cornflakes mixed with melted chocolate and put in cake cases. 5 minutes to make, taste good. Done.

JustBeenNosey · 13/09/2019 18:55

@notnowlater what did you end up baking?

notnowlater · 13/09/2019 19:49

@JustBeenNosey - the McMillan sale isn't until Friday 27th, but I plan to make rocky road, brownies, chocolate cookies, and a millionaire shortbread. Weighed all the chocolate today and there's almost a kilo so plenty to go round :-)

Chocolate bark....loads of videos on YouTube which show you how to do it.

JustBeenNosey · 13/09/2019 19:52

@notnowlater ooooo okay! You'll have to send us pictures once you've baked them 😊

Stravapalava · 20/09/2019 16:57

Tiffin!

whyamidoingthis · 20/09/2019 17:16

I wouldn't make brownies with it. You need a decent quality chocolate for that and as it's easter eggs, I assume it's pretty crap?

Rice Crispie buns, cornflakes nests with some mini eggs, choc chip cookies, flapjacks with chocolate chips or chocolate drizzled over them.

notnowlater · 26/09/2019 12:26

@JustBeenNosey here you go. :-)
I made millionaire flapjacks (combined two BBC Good Food recipes), chocolate chip cookies from the recipe @DonPablo linked to, Nigella's rocky road, and a cornflake cake thing I kind of made up to use up the marshmallows!

They all look delicious.

DH had loads of leftover chocolate in a cupboard when I first moved in with him. I made rocky road and dark chocolate cupcakes with raspberry centres, white chocolate frosting dipped in milk chocolate.

JustBeenNosey · 26/09/2019 13:49

Oooo they look lovely! I'm gonna have to get my bake on I think sometime soon!

I saw a recipe for red velvet cookies which looked bloody lovely so gonna give that a go I think next tome 🤤🤤

Left over Chocolate - does not compute! Computer says no, never happens!
