Using up flour & baking powder!

CommonFishDiseases · 07/09/2019 09:53

I've got 1 big bag of SR flour, 1 big bag of plain flour and 2 pots of baking powder which are just out of date. I want to use them up rather than chucking them. Can anyone suggest ways I can use up flour and baking powder, other than baking a shed load of cakes?! (Have one in the oven atm)...

Make and freeze a load of pastry, crumble topping and plain scones to use for recipes later?
You can freeze flour, this is usually recommended for whole-grain or other varieties with a high oil content that can go rancid, but you can freeze the regular stuff too.
If you have kids make salt dough/play dough for them?

Oh! Oh!
Thought of another one!

Don’t try crumble topping with self raising! I’ve done it before by accident! And I wouldn’t make pastry either.

Pizza bases?
They can probably be frozen and won't take up much room in the freezer.

Just ignore the date? It's advisory, not a drop-dead commandment. Unless you have flour beetles.

Scones freeze beautifully.

ignore the 'best before' dates.
those ingredients if stored cool and will all be fine for a while still. the baking powder will work a little less but that can easily be compensated by using more.

Yorkshire puddings with the plain flour - make small ones in tart/muffin tins and freeze

I would also ignore the date. If you think you have a moth problem, freeze it.
