Blackberries

We've got a massive blackberry bush in our garden and it has produced a bumper crop this year, so I'm on the search for good blackberry recipes.

So far I have made:
Blackberry and apple crumble (of course)
Bramble jelly
Blackberry muffins

I've had blackberries and yoghurt / granola for breakfast every day this week, the freezer is full of blackberries, and I've given some away. But they are still coming!

How else can I use (or preserve) them?

Blackberry jam?

I’m making apple and blackberry Eve’s pudding tomorrow.

Blackberry cobbler and/or blackberry vodka (more like liqueur tbh, for Christmas). Both delicious.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 04/09/2019 22:56

Cheesecake.
Gin.
Ice cream.

Freecyle/Freegle some? People do offer gluts of fruit/veg on my local groups.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/09/2019 23:04

DD made a delicious blackberry and lime syrup to add to gin.

Just blackberries, lime juice, sugar and water. Strain it afterwards, obviously.

3boysandabump · 04/09/2019 23:05

I saw a recipe for making them into the fruit winder things. Think it was on Pinterest

jackstini · 04/09/2019 23:11

Ice cream, vodka, coulis

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/09/2019 23:11

Blackberry vodka then use the blackberries from that on ice cream. Mmmmmmm.

Freeze for winter smoothies.

Blackberry and ground almond cakes. I used a butter-free recipe I found online, added ground almonds and blackberries using an electric mixer so they had no whole blackberries in but were purple, almondy and kept me full for ages! They freeze well too.

Blondie1984 · 04/09/2019 23:24

Blackberry ice cream or sorbet would be lovely
Blackberry & apple crumble or pie for the freezer
Pavlova
Coulis

MrsJoshNavidi · 04/09/2019 23:32

Blackberry whiskey is lovely. And blackberry muffins (use a blueberry muffin recipe).

Some great ideas here, thank you.

The blackberry and ground almond cakes sound delicious @KerryHall, and I bet my dc would love the fact that they are purple Grin

I've also found a recipe for blackberry frozen yoghurt which I might try, if I can make some space in the freezer...

I have a similar glut, plus I'm picking a litre container of raspberries every other day too, spending all my spare time picking and freezing at the moment, definitely a bumper year.

I've had many kilos of blackberries this year and am blackberried out! Favourite things I have made this year

Grambler · 05/09/2019 21:31

Vodka
Gin
Freeze in crumble portion sizes.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/09/2019 21:36

It certainly is a bumper year for them. Loving some of these ideas, especially the gin, and the syrup. So that's a few Christmas presents sorted too Wine

BlingLoving · 05/09/2019 21:50

Interesting. In our area it hasn't been that good a year. Admittedly it's all wild and none of them are maintained or pruned so perhaps that affects things but last year I was picking constantly while walking the dog but this year has been much thinner. Am dead jealous.

rslsys · 05/09/2019 21:52

Blackberry Brandy!

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/09/2019 22:50

Both wild and cultivated are cropping heavily here (SE England) but noticed they seemed much sparser on a recent visit to the Peak District.

Catquest1 · 05/09/2019 23:05

As aside i heard you should soak blackberries in salt before using them? Is this true???!!

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/09/2019 10:09

Red that does look nice, I might try that this afternoon

WhoKnewBeefStew · 06/09/2019 10:33

Jam would be my go to... buy some fancy jars and make some for Xmas pressies

MrsJoshNavidi · 06/09/2019 18:38

That's to kill bugs. But I haven't found a bug in a blackberry for years.

Creme de Mure (like creme de cassis but with blackberries)
