How long does an unopened jar of home-made chutney last?

I'm making up a hamper for MIL's 85th birthday. I have an unopened jar of apple chutney that has been kept in the cellar (ie cool and dark conditions) since it was made nearly 4 years ago!!

It's in one of those clip-down jars, well cleaned and sterilised before use and well sealed.

Is this ok to eat? Don't want to poison MIL - she's nice Grin.

We've had chutney over 10 years and it's been delicious- matures beautifully. So long as it was made correctly (as you describe) it'll probably be fab.

At least a decade. It's preserved, that's the point. It'll be delicious 😋

As long as it's been sealed properly it'll last for as long as you're willing to wait.
