Hi-

In your opinion, what sandwich fillings work out the cheapest?

I know sliced meats are supposed to be expensive, so have been trying tuna, sweet corn and mayo, but tuna is very expensive!

Egg is not an option!

Inspiration is greatly appreciated!

Marmite
Shippam's pastes
Peanut butter

All very cheap. Many kids at my school back in the 70's had "sauce" sandwiches for tea (either brown or tomato) or even Sugar sandwiches if times were hard. Spring onion and lettuce were also popular.

Another vote for sardine sandwiches, add cucumber if liked. Cream cheese with finely chopped chives or spring onions or broken walnuts added.

Sandwich Spread was a favourite in my childhood.

My favourite summer lunch at work is a packet of oatcakes (6 in there I think) and a little tub of cottage cheese with an apple. Must cost less than £1.

If you eat meat, you could boil your own ham, which is dead easy and cheap and then slice it for ham sandwiches. It is much cheaper to do it this way than buy pre-sliced ham.
