Black currants and redcurrants

A friend has a glut of redcurrants and black currants and has told me to take what I want. I don’t know how to make jam or jelly, and don’t have the kit, so what else can I do with them. I’m thinking vodka or gin for Christmas?

I think it's as simple as washing the fruit and adding it to vodka or gin. Maybe some sugar is added.

Actually I don't know so hopefully this will bump the thread for you.

Use them to make summer pudding
Granita/sorbet
Make compote and serve with ice cream or yoghurt
Blackcurrant cordial - you can either drink this with water or add a little champagne - or serve with spirits

Make no-churn ice cream? I'm just about to do that with my glut of blackberries. Just in time for the forecasted bank holiday heatwave!

Boil down 250g blackberries (or whatever you have) with 50g sugar (or more if your berries are tart) till reduced and of 'rippling' consistency. Cool completely.

Whip 480ml double cream to soft peaks then add 1 can sweetened condensed milk, whipping till incorporated. Ripple through your fruit and freeze 6 hours/overnight.

Like the ice cream idea. So far have made gin and a black currant drizzle cake.

Redcurrant and lavender cordial. It is delicious.

Cook & puree them. (Sieve if you're keen and don't mind never having a clean sieve again)
Cool.
Add slightly whipped cream
Use instead of water to make up a jelly.
Advantage is that when your kids eat it they won't drip blackcurrant everywhere- it STAINS
It's yummy
