It's the first time I've used a new baking tray to cook potatoes (have cooked biscuits on it already) it's metallic rather than non-stick tray. Is that anything to do with it?

rabies?

no idea I'm afraid

What kind of oil are you roasting them in? Some oils foam.

DANCESwithDumbledore · 02/08/2007 17:17

Yep - weird

Butter would foam, but olive oil shouldn't.

CountessDracula · 02/08/2007 17:19

did you wash them in fairy liquid?

raspberryberet · 02/08/2007 17:20

The tray hasn't got unrinsed washing up liquid or something on it, has it?

raspberryberet · 02/08/2007 17:21

x-post!

cremolafoam · 02/08/2007 17:23

are they mc cains or a frozen type? sometimes these are coated in oil or butter which can foam up as they are cooking.

Ah...well...I think I figured it out (washing liquid it was not...) I had them on the same tray as some sausages and I think the fat from the sausages (bleurgh) was what was bubbling round the edge of the potatoes. Honestly, I buy those 'nice' butchers choice sausages with the cheeky chappy Oliver promise of 'no knobbly bits' and then the damn things start foaming!

[politely hands back raspberry leaf tea and refrains from mentioning it tastes FOUL]

DANCESwithDumbledore · 02/08/2007 17:39

HA! Never tried it. I had jasmine tea (also utterly foul) on the monday I was 37 weeks and on the Thursday my waters broke...didn't wanted to presume ...just wanted to strengthen your uterus or whatever it does
