Fajita Spice mix - recipe

CCquavers · 19/07/2019 17:58

I used to use El Paso fajita spice mix for taco and the one for chicken that was smoky flavoured. I can't buy either of these mixes anymore other than in different brands which are horrible.

I've tried twice to make my own as I have a cupboard full of the spices but I just can't get anywhere even near nice tasting let alone the same flavours.

Does anyone have a tried and tested spice mix recipe that I can copy? If I don't have a Mexican night soon I'm slowly going to go mad.

Probably cos they are full of sugar that's why they taste so yummy! Try adding sugar or google fajita mix ideas, there's bound to be one you like the sound of :)

Bart's spices do a tin of Fajita spice that is delicious but you don't need much.

I kind of make mine up but it's approx:

1 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp chilli
1/2 tsp garlic powder

misslomi · 20/07/2019 13:52

1 tbsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp oregano
2 tsp coriander
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Does enough for 4

bloodywhitecat · 20/07/2019 13:54

1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper

Mix together.

If you want a smoky flavour try using smoked paprika.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/07/2019 14:35

This is an excellent recipe that I've used many times.

Right, thank you very much everyone who has gone to the trouble to write down their recipes. I have printed off your lists and I will be trying them.
@TinklyLittleLaugh not seen cayenne pepper in the recipes before is that your own addition? is it hot?

Oh I didn't know about the cayenne. Don't have that in my cupboard but will get some. I'm now thinking I need to add sugar in large quantities as well which is not the point of cooking from scratch. Thanks everyone

You could try a tablespoon of all of those and a pinch of sugar. I make our own tomato based sauces and the jars always have so much sugar yet I always find a teaspoon worth is enough.

This is the one we use.

I don’t put sugar in mine. Tastes nice, popular with the family anyway.
