Birthday chocolate cake

windmill121 · 17/07/2019 22:33

I need to make a child's chocolate birthday cake but will be covering in fondant icing

Does anyone have any fool proof recipes ?

I normally make the ultimate chocolate cake (bbc good food) but it's too rich for 6 year olds

Thanks

A bog standard chocolate Victoria sponge is probably going to be the best. What size do you want to make?

I think 20 cm

I’d just do a Victoria sponge with 4 eggs, 8oz sugar, 8oz butter, 6 oz self raising flour and 2 oz cocoa powder.

I did this the other day

id do a bog standard vistoria sponge.10z mix which is 10 flour(self.r) eggs and then 5 margarine and sugar.
do you have time before hand.you could do a mix and then test it using cupcakes to see the stength yo uwant.
when adding the cocoa we generaly replace the flour with however many spoons of cocoa we add.

sometimes adding some milk choc like cadburys to the mix helps it be more child friendly.putting some in the icing too.

Best chocolate cake recipe ever is the one from the GÜ cookbook. 🤤
You can just swap the ganache for fondant.
