Pescetarian bbq ideas for kids

DD has started not eating meat, still eats fish and dairy. She doesn’t like feta and the jerk aubergines I did for the last bbq didn’t go down well.

Any other ideas for bbq food? I do halloumi veg skewers and there are lots of salads but she wants something a bit more exciting. Any recommendations for nice veggie burgers that won’t fall apart on the bbq?

Quorn best of British sausages are very similar in texture to pork ones.

Cod, tuna, salmon and prawns all work on kebabs.

Salmon cooked in tinfoil.
Mackerel (the fresh ones, not smoked!) are sooo cheap and very tasty cooked on the bbq. One of the fish holders is the way to go though so it doesn't stick to the bbq or fall apart.

Sticky salmon is lovely on the bbq too if she likes salmon!

Iraqi masgouf is amazing. To be authentic, you should butterfly the fish and skewer it at the edge of the fire to cook slowly for hours but life is too short for that! Grin I just use fillets (skin on) in a fish holder. I like to use sea bream or sea bass, carp is more traditional. Here's the recipe for the marinade:

1 Tbsp light olive oil
1/2 Tsp ground turmeric
2 Tsp crushed garlic
1 Tbsp tamarind paste
1 Tsp black pepper
Salt to taste

Marinade for an hour then barbecue skin side down until flaky and the skin is crispy, then you want to turn it so it blackens a little on the top.

Salmon spread with a bit of mild sweet chilli sauce and roasted wrapped in tin foil.
Grilled tuna with butter and lime.
Monkfish on skewers drizzled in chilli butter

cdtaylornats · 26/07/2019 21:58

Monkfish, tuna, shark are all excellent. A korma style curry marinade is ideal for the monkfish

Morrison’s sell salmon kebabs which are excellent on a bbq - part of the 3 for £10 range.

Whole stuffed sea bass or bream (Aldi have started doing whole frozen ones for £2.99, much much fresher)

Stuff w eg garlic, herbs, lemon whatever you like.

Invest in a fish cage for BBQ.

One fish per person

Sweet potato black bean burgers topped with fried haloumi are a go to here (not a veggie)

Microwave sweet potatoes, scoop out insides, add chopped red onion, can of black beans (or kidner beans) chuck some cumin and garlic in, squish. Then form into burger shapes. Nice brioche bun, topped with onion lettuce halloumi and cheese. Yum.

Even my “must eat meat with every meal possible” Dm loved them.

You can bbq a whole salmon or side of salmon - it tastes AMAZING! Stuff or top the fish with lemon slices, herbs, sea salt and drizzled olive oil then wrap in foil.

I make chickpea burgers - tin of chickpeas, a red onion, a red chilli, a large handful of coriander, 2 teaspoons of ground cumin, 1 of paprika, and blitz in the food processor, then add flour until you can bring it together into a patty. Dust the outside of the patties with flour and then bbq them sat on a sheet of foil so they don’t collapse.

Oh and garlic ^^
