Calling all kitsch dinner party planners

I'm having my family round for lunch on Sunday (for 12) and wanted to theme it somehow. 4 of us have our birthdays in July so I thought I might make it a kitsch birthday theme.

Obviously when I am googling different themes for birthday parties keep coming back rather than the theme "birthday" so just wondering if you had any cheerful ideas for drinks/table setting/or food?

Help! Cake

That will be on Sunday 7th July?

If so, you can celebrate one of the giant leaps forward that mankind has made:
The invention of sliced bread!
First sold in 1928 by the Chillicothe Baking Company, Missouri, using a machine invented by Otto Rohwedder.

Your menu could start with smoked salmon or prawn cocktail served with thinly sliced brown bread, or pate and toast.
Then Chicken Caesar salad with croutons.
Then for pudding, triangles of brioche briefly fried in butter used as a base for mixed summer fruit compote, served with cream or ice cream.

Enjoy! Wine Wine

It’s Wimbledon so you could do a strawberries & cream / tennis party

Gingham tablecloths, Pima, parasols etc You could do a fancy “picnic” theme for lunch

Pims not Pima

Google summer party ideas on Pinterest as well -they have some good ideas

I gave my husband a birthday dinner party once.

We had banners and helium balloons on each chair. Little party hats And kazoos on each table setting. We did a round of pass the parcel in between courses.

Started the eve with his favourite cocktail and then lots of fizz and his favourite food. Moules Mariner, fillet of beef, Eton mess.

We had lovely food, then afterwards we had a disco. There were 12 of us. It was a huge success and a laugh!

Ooh I also like the idea of a Wimbledon party!

Still wasn't clear in my post!! I was really hoping the theme would be "birthday" in and of itself.

Think I am after something far too niche ...

I don’t know what you mean.

GloGirl · 01/07/2019 22:36

Dont worry, I'm talking nonsense as ever.

Decided to go for the Wimbledon theme as I've found lots of fun and easy cheap quirky ideas and also a brilliant strawberry pinata!! I love it! Grin

Any ideas for appetizers?

Ps I cant stop thinking about how the simple brioche 'summer pudding' above sounds! Might have to be dessert.
