Organic butter

Does Organic butter usually smell? I used some to make buttercream icing and it smells and tastes .... sort of farmlike in a bad way. I'm not sure if it's meant to have a strong smell or if it's gone off.

No, it shouldn't smell not taste bad.
Where did you store it and next to what in your fridge? It could also be old

It was just bought from waitrose and used straight away. I'll just make fresh icing with new butter to be on the safe side. Thanks

Yes sometimes it smells grassy or cheesy, especially when it's cultured butter! When it's like that I love it for toast but not for baking when you want a more neutral taste. When baking I avoid cultured butter.
