Food ideas for one handed chef

Recent injury has left me with one hand with which to cook and my brain is blank. Just found out how difficult it is to even butter bread!

Any ideas for meals that can be cooked with just one hand? pasta, rice etc seem easy enough but stirring pans that need to be held or things that require even semi difficult chopping are out of the question. Would need to feed 2 and ideally quickly as 5 week old doesn't like the idea of us eating 😭

No allergies or intollerences

Look at ready prepared items in the supermarket, for instance a Caesar salad pack and add some ready cooked sliced chicken, or a prepared mixed salad with smoked mackerel fillets added.

Use things like sachets of microwavable rice, frozen mashed potato, packs of frozen fish fillets to bake in the oven.

Most of all, rope in the other person you are cooking for to help you as much as possible.

Speedy recovery!

Love mackeral! Had forgotten they even existed!

Did have a realisation that I could get meat from butcher rather than small local supermarket and ask them nicely to cube/slice for me.

I agree in your situation I would be cheating! Most of the fish counters in the supermarket will do you fish in an oven proof bag, with a flavoured butter of your choice that you just put in the oven. The microwave pouches or frozen sachets of rice are fab as they don’t need draining.
Jacket potatoes with coleslaw and ready grated cheese.
Get some chicken breast fillets and a spice rub, tiny splash of oil in a bag then just shake and tip onto oven tray to cook. Serve with ready done salad.

I'd be loading up on M&S meals!

If you can boil a kettle, you could make up a packet of couscous which serves 2 and is ready in less than 15 minutes. Just soak in boiled water. Most supermarkets sell Mediterranean flavour www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/253748557 which is delicious with crumbled feta cheese and cherry tomatoes. What’s more, it can be eaten with a fork in one hand without needing a knife (unlike a jacket potato!)

Burgers or sausages under the grill. Burgers would probably be best as can be served in pre sliced burger buns with pre-sliced cheese and eaten using your able hand.

Heinz creationz lentil curry (can be microwaved, doesn’t need a job) with microwave rice www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/301925091 - eaten one handed with a fork!

Thanks 😁

Feels like cheating to do ready meals, closest M&S is sadly too far away or else we would be exclusively eating cake for the next 12 weeks!

I broke my shoulder recently. Ready made meals are your friend. There are too many other problems to contend with.
