Can I freeze a shop bought party cake?

I was in M&S today and they had reduced their cakes to a ridiculously cheap price....so I bought an extremely chocolatey birthday cake and a white chocolate and strawberry cake (both cakes with buttercream on). Has anyone successfully frozen one before? If so is it best frozen in slices or whole? - My friend tells me she freezes Costco birthday cake and it defrosts fine which is why I am considering it. - They won't be used for anything special just the kids etc

My SIL does this all the time! And they're always okay to eat so I would say yes (although someone with more cake knowledge may come along after me and say no way!)

I think unless you are planning on eating the whole cake in one go, it would be better to freeze in slices. They can then be served fresh from freezer for the ice cream cake experience, or left out for a bit for a slightly more soggy than usual puddingy cakeness. Mmm.

Yeah she does, then defrosts in time for the party I think hers are often M&S too.

I'd make sure to double cling wrap it to make sure it doesn't get freezer burn etc

I froze a Colin the Caterpillar cake recently. The smarties lost their colour a bit but it tasted fine once defrosted.
