Confetti cake - hundreds and thousands?

Dd wants a confetti cake for her birthday, ie sprinkles in the cake mix last time I made one though, the hundreds and thousands I baked into the cake just seemed to melt away. Did I just get unlucky or is there a particular type of sprinkle that works for this?

You need special funfetti sprinkles, I'll see if I can find them....

I did one a couple of years ago and had flat round ones, normal hundreds and thousands melt. Good luck !
