A friend's family make home made biryani and serve it with a very thin white/very pale green sauce to add to it. The sauce is yoghurty and has chilli/spices in. When I asked I was told it's called 'chass'. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this is so that I can replicate?

The infamous takeout mint sauce! I have been hunting for a recipe unsuccessfully for ages so will be watching this thread with interest. Sorry, no help.

It's raita?

Bluesheep8 · 14/04/2019 08:10

That sounds like it could be it, Thank you! I did ask my friend for the recipe but I think it must be a family secret...

Recipe as per pp but also add a few leaves of mint. Deseed the chillies. Chuck it all in together and blend with stick blender. Add more salt to taste.

Chass just refers to a sauce containing chilli.

Bluesheep8 · 14/04/2019 08:19

Thanks everyone. I really want to make it so it's the same but my friend was quite vague when I asked

Prob because they don’t use specific quantities it’s just a bit of this and that if they make it all the time. Use the ingredients above and it will come out like that but taste it to get it how you want.

That sounds like a sauce we had last night! The man told us it was coriander, mint, garlic, chilli, a small amount of sugar and some lemon juice

Bluesheep8 · 14/04/2019 08:30

Thanks again

Chaas is essentially buttermilk. You can drink it plain or add various flavours (either spicy, salty or sweet).

Recipe you’re looking for might be something like this:

It sounds like coriander chutney which is basically yogurt, coriander, fresh chilli, garlic, a bit of sugar and salt all whizzed up with a hand blender.
