The unbearable tedium of school holiday lunches

What do you do for lunch on days when primary-age dc are playing around the house/going in and out to friends etc.?

We have lots of days like this during the holidays. It’s lovely and relaxed but we get into such a rut with lunches; dc always just seem to want a sandwich, crisps, fruit ... same as they get during term time in packed lunches, basically. it’s not a nightmare but it’s so dull. And there are too many crisps. Then again it’s easy, and I don’t really have time to do anything complicated.

I feel like I need to rethink what lunch actually MEANS and shop differently, but it’s like I have a mental block about it.

Mine have, apart from the usual sandwiches, crisps, yoghurt etc:

Things on toast
Dippy eggs
Eggy bread
Spanish omelette
Jacket potatoes with various toppings
Frozen pizzas with veg sticks
Soup & crackers / toast
"bits and pieces" - ham, cheese, cucumber, breadsticks, cherry tomatoes etc
Savoury scones / flapjacks (we make them ourselves)
Breakfast for lunch - sausage, bacon, egg, beans, toast
