Do your sausages contain Sodium Metabisulfite?

So I’ve found out I’m hella allergic to sodium metabisulfite (it makes me unbelievably itchy for days), which is a common preservative in sausages.

Would you mind, when you next have sausages, checking the ingredients and letting me know please? I’ve been round Sainbo’s and found one potential sausage!

DD LOVES a sausage so have them at least once a week 😫

The only ones I've seen are the finnebrogue naked, which are probably the ones you saw. It's a common preservative, unfortunately. M&S might be worth looking at, as they do some nitrite free ham and bacon.

There's always the home made sausage pattie option, mind, if you can cut through all the bloody waffle and adverts

I feel for you!. It causes my asthma to flair up. Sadly it's in loads of things, wine Sad, chutneys, most things in vinegar.

@PickAChew yes they’re the ones! I didn’t think of M&S so I’ll go have a look; thanks.
We like making things from scratch so might give them a go.

@AutumnDragon oh no, I didn’t realise!! 😫 even more!

I buy Duchy organic ones from Waitrose/Ocado that are sodium Metabisulfite free.

Honestly a sausage is a sausge my lovlies Wink
I find the Sodium Metabisulfite completely unnoticable apart from my wildly irreglar aunty flow. She basically moved in for 3 months! DH was not impressed haha!!!! Luckily DH makes a lovely sausige himself.

Try your local butcher instead of a supermarket.

If you brew your own, it's used for sterilising brewing equipment.

Omg I’m allergic to that too! Realised two years ago that’s why lime cordial etc gave me red dots all over my face.

Organic sausages are safe. It’s in burgers too.

Unfortunatly most ground pork also contains sulphites so not really a solution

helibirdcomp · 11/08/2020 17:34

Most Iceland frozen burgers seem to bee sulphite free
