ATM DS has packed lunch once a week. I have found a set of food he can eat appropriately.
Next term onwards he will have packed lunch 5 days a week (or poss 4 if there is one suitable school dinner). Clearly, I can't really send him in with the same thing 5 days a week, week-in, week-out.
here's the challenge:
he has singificant motor skills disorder. He can't eat messy food neatly. So our constraints are:
- non-messy food (so no yoghurt, no tomatoes, no 'dips' etc)
- no packets he can't open (I put things in little tubs he can open)
- no cutlery needed (so no couscous - we are working on the cutlery thing, he often has plain cooked pasta with a spoon or fork - he uses the fork a little bit, but then gives up and uses his fingers)
- sandwiches with 'hard' filling (eg ham, sliced cheese) get pulled apart (a bit too hard to eat whole); I'm not sure what he'd do with a sandwich with soft filling (eg marmite, peanut butter) but suspect it would be messy. So sandwiches generally out. I've been told he 'stuffs' bread from his packed lunch all into his mouth at once, so in general bread not good.
- I'm a bit neurotic about nutrition, so must all be healthy / no additives etc
- must be balanced and sustain an active growing boy till home time
- I work and have two other little children, so mustn't be too time consuming.
- he's a wonderfully wide ranging eater, but it does need to be tempting to compete with other children's lunch boxes, and not too way-out
I want to generate a list of at least 5 or poss 10 diff packed lunches.
There's the challenge - over to you - please help!
