Brioche without yeast - total prat moment

I made brioche dough - was so proud - and it hasn’t risen at all. Checked the yeast packet and it says 2017. What a galumphing prat I am.

Is there anything I can do with it other than the bin?

hopeful bump before I stick all this buttery goodness in the compost

Can you roll it out and make flatbreads - a sort of brioche/pancake hybrid, might be nice rolled up with jam for breakfast. (Disclaimer: I've never tried this, no idea of it will actually work!!!)

Encolere · 10/03/2019 19:14

Leave it - it might rise overnight. Or try Nanny's suggestion. With chocolate spread even!

Do you have DC who need snacks? Roll quite thin, cut into cool shapes. Bake like crackers.

reallybadidea · 10/03/2019 19:19

Yes, try leaving it longer. Or even put it in a just warm oven. Or if you can get hold of some new yeast I would dissolve a couple of teaspoons in some warm milk, then gradually knead it in with a bit of extra flour.

I've done similar myself and it is SO annoying!

Right, it’s gone in the oven as flatbreads, all properly done with an egg wash, cinnamon and brown sugar. I’m imagining puffy sweet pittas that I can stuff with ice cream Grin
Will report back

That actually sounds delicious. Fingers crossed!

GooodMythicalMorning · 10/03/2019 19:45

It does sound nice!

They looked beauuuutiful. But I think they had their own gravitational field. No use even for DS’s breakfast, I don’t think his barely-there molars could cope!

What a shame. You could maybe use them to surprise a few seagulls?
