Hi guess I should have started a new thread here - so here goes.
My first time on Mumsnet. I am going spare here. My two year old sons food repertoire has never been great but is rapidly reducing to pints of (weak) squash a day and marmite or honey toast. I breast fed for 18 months but he has never accepted cows milk - not even with sugar in or milkshakes. He wont eat any fruit or vegetables voluntarily either. I have to hide it all. He also refuses to feed himself unless it is toast. He often even refuses that and just demands a drink instead. To be fair he is getting the big back molars at the moment but it only seems to bother him off and on.

He used to eat yoghurts and cheese OK so I wasnt too worried about the lack of dairy but now he is starting to refuse that too. At the moment I have to spoon feed him anything half healthy in front of the TV otherwise he clamps his mouth shut.

(My 4 year old son will eat anything and everything from kippers to artichokes - at the table - with a knife and fork. I dont know how I managed to get it so wrong with the little one when it went so well with the big one??)

My head is telling me to just give him what the rest of the family eats and if he doesnt eat it then he goes to bed hungry but my heart wont let me carry it through!

Advice/encouragement desperately required.

hi mare

my little toddler is also a fussy eater but keep at it. I have had many a day when I have spent ages cooking something new which he refuses to touch and is often eaten by my husband!! Have you tried to get him to eat with another child his age? sometimes this helps to get them to eat things that they wouldn't normally touch. Also if he likes toast and cheese try a toasted cheese sandwich in a tosted sandwich maker and then if he eats these slowly start adding more to the contents of it. good luck

Not logged on since yesterday. I can really only log on when kids in bed or when I'm at work! (sorry boss)

It's keeping me up at night now! Thinking loads about it last night. got to thinking about how the little so & so will eat mud/crayons quite happily that MUST taste foul! When I of course say 'no' and take it away....but refuses pretty much anything I WANT him to eat.

So I think VenividiV... is right. Maybe If I try some reverse psychology and BAN him from eating stuff I offer to his big bro' he might want it then!!

I'll get a sandwich toaster and say he CAN't have one!!!

It works a treat

But, also the eating food and looking like you and the rest of your family are completely enjoying, whilst ignoring him at the same time works too.
