Tortellini

Hello - this is probably a silly question.

I’ve only recently started buying tortellini for DD and enjoying it myself. She just had hers with a wee bit of cheese sprinkled on top.

Am pregnant just now and was thinking it’d be a handy dinner for those first few weeks after baby arrives. Just wondering what sauce/if any you would serve tortellini with?

I buy the basil, tomato and mozzarella mainly.

Thanks in advance

I’m very lazy

Olive oil, chillis and Parmesan
Napoli sauce
Sage and butter

Mmmmm

sleepismysuperpower1 · 09/02/2019 18:06

chilli oil, or mushroom and bacon sauce x

Montgomerystubercles · 09/02/2019 18:07

All of the above plus had my mind blown when a friend suggested putting them in soup (broth type probably not cream of tomato!)

Montgomerystubercles · 09/02/2019 18:08

Although actually, given your reason for wanting to eat them, maybe not the soup....

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 09/02/2019 18:08

Cheese sauce and cauliflower - delicious!!

WhoWants2Know · 09/02/2019 18:10

My youngest loves them in tomato and marscapone sauce, especially with cheese on top as a pasta bake.

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 18:12

I like them best in butter with some fried sage leaves.

I enjoy gnocchi too.

I mostly just do butter and parmesan, but tomato sauce is a classic with the spinach and ricotta ones. They kind of have sauce inside so I don’t feel the need for a sauce.

Tip: you can freeze them and cook straight from frozen, so they’re a great standby

Pesto and parmesan with the spinach and ricotta, or with the mushroom tortellini we have sautéed sliced mushrooms and crème fraîche

LoniceraJaponica · 10/02/2019 15:32

Pesto usually for us, plus a side salad.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Much appreciated!

Tomato and mascarpone is a staple here or just tomato and basil. Dc won’t eat it here without some form of sauce

Sukochicha · 12/02/2019 23:17

Depends what flavour you have, but I go for something from the following, which is all done in the same time the 3 min stuff takes to cook!

Blended up tin of toms with pinch chilli flakes, oreganos, fresh basil, salt, pepper, sugar, balsamic vin, olive oil

Pesto
Fried sage in butter
Drizzle of good olive oil and grate a bit of lemon zest over
Drizzle of oil, black pepper and Parmesan
Roast butternut squash sauce (batch made and frozen so just heat up)

@suko - butternut squash sauce is a great call - thank you!
