Scones but no cookie cutter

Hi does anyone know if I will get away with cutting scones with a knife? I don't have a cookie cutter well I do but its about 4.5 inches so way to wide ? Thought about using a glass but all of ours are quite wide so too big also! Has anyone succesfully baked scones without a cookie cutter?

If I can't find a cutter I generally use a glass or a mug, but a knife will work fine too - it's still cutting.

I rarely use a cookie cutter. Just pull chunks off, roll in a ball, squash down... Might not look professional but taste the same.

Use a teacup. Works for me.

I never use a cutter, I shape the dough into two flat rounds then cut into wedges. You get very rustic looking scones (i prefer them to perfectly cut ones though), and they taste a lot better for being handled minimally. Rolling and rerolling and generally handling the dough too much can make them a bit tough.

Use a narrow wine glass

I've used a glass before but for cheese scones I just bake as one big round scone and partially cut into 8 before I cook it. And then eat them all 😀

I'd use a glass. Don't twist it and your edges will be cleaner when baked.

Thanks so much guys gonna give them a go without a cutter at all and then do a few with a champagne flute and see how they come out, may make a couple of batches and have some cheese scones too.. cant wait to stuff my face Grin

Dip a cup in flour then use as it, that's all I do 😂
