A favourite in our house is bean and sausage stew:
Sausages (we use polish ones but you can use any)
Tins of mixed beans in water
Onion chopped and fried for a few minutes in 3 tablespoons of paprika
Good dash of Thyme
Splash of Lemon juice
Smoked bacon lardons
Bay leaf
Pepper
Water
Caraway seeds (if you have them)

Bung in together in the slow cooker and cook for at least 3 hours. You can cook it for as long as you like. Add more water for a broth-style, or less for a thicker stew 😊

Oh great thread! I just got a new slow cooker and need inspiration Smile I have to admit I'm very excited about this slow cooker as you can seer the food on the hob first and my old didn't do that

I normally just make beef stew or lamb curry in my old slow cooker!

I found this recipe which I really want to try:

https://www.foxandbriar.com/slow-cooker-mexican-shredded-beef/

Also can I ask what type of meat do you use? I normally use lean fat free meat as I don't like fat on meat but some recipes I read today said the fatty meats turn out better?

seriouslylong slow cooking works best for cheaper fattier cuts, especially if you want that shredded type of dish. So for pork I use shoulder for example.

Goulash

Preparation Time 30 Minutes
Cooking Time 6 hours
Serves 8

Ingredients
1K pork shoulder cubes - or buy pork shoulder steaks and cut them up
1 diced red chilli (if you like)
1 diced red pepper

  1. Onions diced
3 tablespoons paprika (a lot) Hot Water 1 veg stock cube made up to 1/2 ltr Carton single cream or UHT cream Cornflour to thicken

Method
Put onions ,peppers, chilli and paprika into a large casserole dish. You can do this the night before.
Brown the pork all over in a frying pan. Add to the casserole dish along with the stock cube and pour over boiling water about 1.5 pints.
Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours. Or longer, it won't matter.
An hour before you want to eat mix the cornflour with a little water and add to the dish along with the cream.
If it doesn’t seem thick enough add more cornflour mixture.
