The only thing about that style of sous vide is that it takes up loads of room. I love cooking sous vide, but I have a steam oven with a sous vide function, so do it in that. I have an Amazon Basics vacuum sealer - they are about £35. Have you considered an immersion-style that you can use with any container instead? Anova is I think the market leader, but there are cheaper versions on Amazon with good reviews. This is the kind of thing I mean: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BLTF8B2/ref=dp_cerb_3?tag=mumsnetforum-21

My dh has just bought a sous-vide and is obsessed with it! Definitely agree with the pp that you should get the kind that can be immersed in any container, takes up much less room that way. My dh has this one a d is really happy with it. The separate containers come in different sizes and are quite cheap.

I've got one, I love it. In fact we had sous vide salmon for dinner last night. If he likes cooking then I think it would be a great gift.

I've also got this book which has some interesting sous vide recipes in www.sousvidetools.com/sous-vide-the-art-of-precision-cooking?gclid=Cj0KCQiA68bhBRCKARIsABYUGidZvzWISKyQF1U-ZGh5x4PD3jlSp71aT4tq2ItpPL8MGHDjqxrLcngaAhYzEALw_wcB

ah crimebusters, I was going to ask about a recipe book. No I will buy the whole kit and caboodle. He likes the best. We have a proper slicer, food mixer etc. he does do an awful lot of cooking. Whereas I have zero interest. My middle son is the same, and borrows stuff he does not have himself from us.
