Bubble and squeak

So I will be making bubble and squeak for the first time this year on Boxing Day. Does this sounds right?

Leftover Brussels sprouts and mashed potato formed into cakes fried?

Have I missed something?

Will be serving with gammon in cider and apple sauce, cabbage/pea/carrot in butter, and bubble and squeak cakes. Possibly any leftover yorkies with jam for pudding

Normally make turkey curry 😂

I use any and all veg for bubble and squeak.

bumblebee39 · 24/12/2018 22:14

Do they need bacon?

Yes they need bacon! Cook the bacon first and then cook the left over roasties and sprouts in the same frying pan. Just modge together with a masher is my late mils method. It's my favourite meal of Xmas. I serve with ham, turkey and bread sauce! All courtesy of her tbh. God I miss her! Her son's is a knob. But she was ace!

Add in your carrots and peas, any veg. We don't have it cooked with bacon in it but usually bacon served on the side. Get some nice brown bits. hp sauce always.

AnnaMariaDreams · 24/12/2018 22:25

I fry bacon, onions and garlic first then add leftover roasties, carrots and sprouts all mushed together.
Delicious!

We smashed up pigs in blankets chestnuts anything spare basically! It's the best.

stinkypoo · 24/12/2018 22:41

I just mix up all the veg & mash, with stuffing & pigs in blankets if there are any left and fry in a big pan - let it cook a while before turning for extra crispness.

Mmmm bubble s squeak with A fried egg.

Youcancallmeval · 24/12/2018 23:12

Mine is just left over potatoes and sprouts. Mush together, fry. Need to get them good and dark before turning. Can do as little fish cake sized things, but I tend to do as a whole in one pan and just chuck and turn bits.

Ooh think I'm actually looking forward to this more than Xmas dinner

Might have some leftover sausages and red cabbage with it too
And some mulled juice

I wish I didn't have to cook Xmas dinner first though!
