No.... get it in the fridge defrosting!!

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou · 24/12/2018 15:12

You can, it’ll take a long time though. But safe to oven roast.

FadedRed · 24/12/2018 15:13

No, but if you take it out of the freezer now, it will have defrosted in time to cook tomorrow.

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou · 24/12/2018 15:14

You honestly can cook a frozen turkey. But definitely better to get it defrosting now.

Sunhill4 · 24/12/2018 20:26

Mine is defrosted, says on label it takes 2.5 hours to cook. It feeds 11 people and is quite large. I have never cooked one before. Do you think that is long enough? It just doesn't sound long and am stressing big time!!

dementedpixie · 24/12/2018 20:28

The fridge will not be fast enough to defrost it. Put it out on a kitchen counter overnight

Bigonesmallone3 · 24/12/2018 20:32

Iv got it in the kitchen side, think il put it in the fridge before I go to bed as seems to be defrosting quickly

@Sunhill4
That does not sound long enough mine says 1hr and 40 mins and serves 4 🤷‍♀️

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/12/2018 20:36

sunhill does it say 2.5 hours plus X amount of time per kilo?

Sunhill4 · 24/12/2018 20:52

No, it just says cooking time 2 hrs 34 mins

dementedpixie · 24/12/2018 20:52

As a general guide, in an oven preheated to 180C (350F, gas mark 4):

allow 45 minutes per kilogram, plus 20 minutes, for a turkey under 4.5kg

allow 40 minutes per kilogram for a turkey that's between 4.5kg and 6.5kg

allow 35 minutes per kilogram for a turkey of more than 6.5kg

Cover your turkey with foil during cooking butuncover it for thefinal 30 minutes to brown the skin. To stop the meat drying out, baste it every hour during cooking.

Where available, follow cookinginstructions on the pack

dementedpixie · 24/12/2018 20:53

What weight is it?

BentNeckLady · 24/12/2018 20:55

I cooked one yesterday for a party and it said 1hr55. It was perfect.

marmitedoughnut · 24/12/2018 21:10

Every bloody year I follow the instructions on the pack and every bloody year I reckon the sodding thing is over cooked. Bought a meat thermometer this year and going to start stabbing the bastard with it at least an hour before the instructed time Grin

booellesmum · 24/12/2018 21:13

Leave it out overnight. If you leave it in the fridge it'll still be frozen tomorrow.

LIZS · 24/12/2018 21:17

Put it in a bath of cold water, change it again before you go to bed.

boatyardblues · 24/12/2018 21:22

We have a 2.1kg stuffed turkey crown. It says defrost for 12 hrs at room temp or 48 hrs in the fridge.

Flowersonthewall · 24/12/2018 21:24

Get the thing out on the side to defrost and then watch the royal family on tonight at half 10 😂

Sunhill4 · 24/12/2018 21:32

Thanks for all replies - wish me luck!!
